BABEL has set itself a mission: to help reinvent high-quality hospitality and dining while placing environmental preservation and natural resources at the heart of its priorities. BABEL is committed to highlighting Belleville and its residents by collaborating long-term with hyper-local suppliers, local artists, and neighborhood associations.

BABEL promotes responsible hospitality and dining that is environmentally conscious and locally rooted. In recognition of this ecological and social commitment, BABEL has been awarded the Ecotable and Green Key labels for sustainable tourism and is certified as a mission-driven company.

It is a vibrant, multifaceted space—a still journey just steps from the metro, nestled on a quiet pedestrian street, nourished by good vibes and quality products.

This is Belleville

The newest addition to the neighborhood, BABEL is part of an ongoing effort to showcase Belleville and its residents by collaborating long-term with hyper-local suppliers, local artists, and community associations.

The beer is brewed just a few streets away by Les Bières de Belleville, the coffee comes from Brûlerie de Jourdain, Zingam delivers seasonal fruits and vegetables through short supply chains, and Gueule de Loup takes care of the restaurant’s greenery.

From floor to ceiling, BABEL is brought to life by Parisian artists from the neighborhood, including Rosatelier, responsible for the wall patinas; 13 bis, who created the mural in the restaurant restrooms; and Juliette Seban, whose fifteen-meter-high mural can be discovered in the elevator.

To bring this multifaceted project to life, the BABEL team brings together Parisians passionate about the city, asylum seekers, and people with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Each person contributes their own story and vision, enriching the project and the spirit of BABEL.

Local resources

From the plate to the bar and even the bathroom, we aim to minimize our environmental impact, as detailed in our Ecological Charter.

At BABEL, we prioritize homemade dishes, local products, sustainable and responsible fishing, and seasonal ingredients. Our sourcing is committed to short supply chains and responsible production. Waste is minimized or composted, and sorting is made possible in the guest rooms. Hotel and restaurant linens are Fair Trade certified and made from organic cotton. Cleaning products and laundry detergents are organic and environmentally friendly.

Because we are committed to responsible hospitality and dining, BABEL has been awarded the Ecotable and Green Key labels and became a mission-driven company in 2022.

ECOLOGICAL CHARTER

Because we are committed to responsible hospitality and dining, we have incorporated a range of eco-friendly practices into our daily operations. As a result, BABEL has been awarded both the Ecotable and Green Key labels.

This charter, developed together with our team, outlines concrete actions to reduce our environmental impact as much as possible while ensuring our guests receive the highest level of comfort and welcome.

Thank you in advance for supporting us in this ecological journey!

· The hotel manager has completed specialized training on sustainable tourism, environmental protection, and corporate social responsibility (CSR).

· Our staff are trained to follow eco-friendly practices in their daily tasks.

· We select our service providers and suppliers based on their sustainable and social commitments, giving priority whenever possible to short supply chains.

· We have installed water savers and pressure reducers on our taps and showers to reduce water consumption.

· We check our water and electricity meters every month to better manage usage.

· All our light bulbs are energy-saving, and our lighting is LED, allowing us to save energy while maintaining a high level of comfort for guests.

· Motion sensors and timers are installed in common areas and hallways to limit unnecessary energy use.

· We are committed to renewable energy by working with a green energy supplier.

· In the rooms, we provide a desk bin for recyclable waste (paper, plastic, cardboard) and a separate bin for organic waste to encourage proper sorting.

· We sort all types of waste, including food scraps, for our compost bin and work with an external composting partner for items that cannot be composted on-site.

· We prioritize bulk or large-format products to cut down on unnecessary packaging.

· We have chosen natural bath products and avoid any single-use containers.

· We have set up a welcome page in each room to guide our guests in eco-friendly practices in line with local regulations.

· We always offer vegetarian dishes on the restaurant menu and in the daily specials—vegan on request—using local, seasonal ingredients, and we can accommodate certain dietary needs.

· Our restaurant and bar menus feature organic and/or fair-trade products.

· Most of our sodas, plant-based milks, and other drinks are homemade, or we source them through short supply chains from local artisans.

· Our wine list is made up of natural, organic, or biodynamic wines.

· To help reduce car travel within Paris, we provide information on Vélib’ bike stations, public transport lines, and eco-friendly vehicles.

· For the well-being of our team and guests, the cleaning products we use are eco-label certified, ensuring better air quality and reducing health risks.

· Our plants are cared for without pesticides, and we use natural gardening methods (compost) to control weeds and insects.

· We have established partnerships with local recycling centers as well as with community and environmental organizations, allowing you to support their work.
